Lisa Jones has rescued two cats that suffer from a condition known as Hydrocephalus, or water on the brain. This condition is neurological , not real common, but not that rare either. Fluid builds up inside the head around the brain which then causes a whole host of potential and serious problems. Zeke is a three month old kitten who has the disease, and Super Hero, or Hero for short, is over 2 years old and successfully under went the shunt procedure.
There is no cure for this disease, but depending on the severity it can be managed either by drugs or a shunt procedure that drains the liquid and moves it to the abdomen where the body absorbs it.The procedure and subsequent care runs in the thousands of dollars.
Lisa Jones is trying to change that by saving affected cats and raising money to provide them with the care they need. She also hopes to encourage research institutions to take notice and find ways to bring the cost down.
On September 12, Pet Radio will air an interview with Lisa and a neurologist named Dr. Scott Plummer. You will hear a detailed medical account and first hand experience from Lisa who has raised several special needs cats and dogs.
