The Great Orange Ginger Cat Extravaganza-
by Robert Hudson
The ginger cat has been a companion to humans going back to ancient Egypt, and has been a long time favorite in todays society.
What breed of ginger cat
What is a ginger/orange cat? Ginger cats are not a specific breed- but is a color pattern that shows up in tabby cats. Tabbies have the M marking on its forehead and stripes. Ginger shows up in street cats as well as various breed specific cats. The cat’s size and behavior depends on the breed and individual.
The ginger coat has many shades from a bright orange to a very diluted orange that appears almost a cream/tan. There can also be orange highlights mixed in. This happens in both short hair and long hair coats.

Harry
This is Mochi. He is 9 weeks old. Activities include: running sideways and stuffing his face with as much food as he can. He’s frisky and fun but when it’s time to whine down, he’s my #1 cuddle buddy! Cuddles also include a free massage
Pretty Gingers
This is Goldie, she is currently about 4 years old. Goldie was very quiet and shy when we first got her, but now she is very vocal. Her meow is chopped up so she sounds like a squeaky toy! Always lets me know when she wants food and pets. Sometimes she’ll sit on my lap, but most of the time she will be planted on a table and watching the squirrels outside.
Ginger cats of all ages
His name is Spencer, he’s 1 year old. His personality is very sweet but shy, loves other cats but cautious of people he doesn’t know.
Momo is a year and a half old, and we celebrated his Gotcha Day on July 28. He is from a great rescue called Tenth Life in St. Louis, Missouri. We adopted him during the pandemic, so I got to “meet” him via Zoom. He is our second kitty from that rescue, the first being his big sister Shinobi. Momo’s full name is Momotarō, which is Japanese for Peach Boy, after a folk legend of a little boy who was beloved by his adoptive parents, and who went on many heroic adventures. Momo is a sweetheart and loves to snuggle with both of us (cat mom and cat dad). He is super energetic and playful. He and his sister are on Instagram @neko_no_kaachan (cat mom in Japanese).
Loki, 2yrs 9months old. He’s a big boy – about 7kg. Incredibly affectionate to his humans, dogs and kitty family members. Loves to curl up with someone at night. Very playful during the day. Just a total lovebug
His name is Guppy. The little guy was found in a field at about 5-6 weeks old. He’s the chillest kitten EVER. Not afraid of anything and very brave. Has to sleep on me at night. The other orangies absolutely love him and they all three play constantly! He has some sort of birth defect because his front legs bow outwards, and one of them is almost twisty. He’s approximately 10 weeks old this weekend. Guppy has two other gingers in the house to play with
