Smokey and the Tank
Smokey and the Tank
by Robert Hudson
Frank the Tank is a cat guy. He is also an athlete, retired MMA fighter, a professional photographer, and an outdoorsman. Frank loves his cats Smokey and Munchkin. “I’ve always liked animals. I grew up wanting a dog, and had to wait until I was 9 to get one. I like cats because they’re not quite as domesticated as dogs, so they are a challenge. A very relieving breakthrough and relief when one finally allows you to pet it, rub its belly, or the cherry on top – lay on your chest or legs in bed. If I had room and time I’d get a big dog too like a Husky or German Shepherd, but for now I’m content with my two cats. “
Love at first site for Smokey and the Tank
Smokey is 18 years old and had a rough start. Frank found him at a rescue three years ago.
“I saw an ad from My Grey’s Strays (they could sure use the plug for what they do: https://www.facebook.com/mr.greysstrays) on Facebook, and I saw that Smokey was up for adoption, and he wouldn’t be good in a home with other cats. I reached out, pleaded my case (I had Munchkin at the time), and they finally decided after testing him out around the other cats he could come to a home with another cat. So I adopted him!”
Munchkin
Munchkin came along before Smokey. ” I got Munchkin from my ex’s brother. He had a feral cat hanging out around his apartment, then one day he let it in and it gave birth – Munchkin was one of those kittens. I took her in the breakup. She always took to me and I took her to the vet and it just made sense she go with me. She’s very active and playful and waits by her favorite toy – a stick with string/birdy on the end to whip around – when she’s ready to play.”
Smokey
Frank the Tank believes Smokey might be a Maine Coon from his appearance, but has not had him tested to confirm. “His personality is timid, but always hungry. He loves running water, so I leave the shower faucet on at all times, he prefers to drink from it versus a bowl or water fountain.”
Smokey’s battle
Smokey has some challenges now. “Smokey is NOT in good health right now. He has cancer in his jaw, and he has lost weight. He weighed 15 lb. in his prime, but is down to 11 lb. now. “
Frank simply wants to enjoy the time he has left with Smokey and make him as comfortable as possible. “He has this awful cancer that has grown a bad tumor on his jaw bone. I don’t know what caused that, but he’s 18 now. I have assumed he’s on borrowed time now for the last year. I haven’t posted any new pictures of him since he developed this in the Fall.”
Please wish Frank the Tank Cat Daddy and Smokey well in the comments below. We think the pair are pretty awesome.
It’s great to see a dedicated Cat Daddy, we don’t have enough.
