“I DIDN’T CHOOSE THE PUGLIFE, THE PUGLIFE CHOSE ME”
How did Puggy come into your life?
I got Puggy as a pup at 8 weeks old. We had an instant connection and were obsessed with him from the get go. I always wanted a Pug and had already picked out his name years before I got him.
I made a promise to Puggy that I would do everything I could to make sure we get to spend every second together, so since then he’s been my ride or die sidekick and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
How old is Puggy?
He is 6 years old, turning 7 on the 27th August – and yes, he has some awesome birthday plans!

I am reading on your page Puggy has been having some physical problems. What is his condition and prognosis?
Puggy has always suffered with ear infections, which is very common with Pugs. Earlier this year things got very serious when he actually developed a resistance to antibiotics in his ears. This meant the infection was spreading quickly. It developed into Vestibular disease which affected his balance and his hearing. He had constant shakes, and after multiple lab tests we were told the only option remaining was a total ear canal ablation. Untreated, the inner ear infection would eventually spread to his brain.
The surgery involved removing his ear canals and clearing out any infection remaining. It had to be split into two surgeries as it would be too painful and confusing for him to have both ears done at once. We are pleased to say that after 5 months of testing, surgeries, treatment and rehabilitation, Puggy is now discharged and doing remarkably well. He is still a little wobbly on his feet and is now adapting to life as a deaf dog, but he is happy and healthy. He is loving all the new tricks he’s learning with sign language.
What has the pug life meant for you and puggy- how would you define it? Is it all laughs and belly rubs?
We have a wonderful life together. Puggy is very much at the center of our universe and we work full time creating silly videos and blogs about his funny escapades and cool stuff he’s been sent to try.
The pug life is a chilled, but fun world and Puggy is always by our side, doing anything he can for a snackie!

Is he your first pug? What have you learned from the pug life?
He’s our first Pug, but certainly not our last. Ive always loved the breed and Puggy has lived up to all expectations.
Puggy is a very human dog, and we always say its like living with a flat mate who doesn’t speak our language. He’s cheeky, demanding, hilarious and utterly loveable.
You have 2 other dogs as well…who rules the pack? Is Puggy the leader?
Puggy is way too chilled to lead anyone! They all care for each other very much and always snuggle together on the sofa. Our tiny dachshund Pops is the leader and Puggy knows its easier to go with the flow rather than challenge anyone!
How would you describe their relationship with each other and how do they fit in with the pug life experience?
Pops and Pomegranate get in some photo and video shoots, but Puggy is the super star and they all seem to know that! Their relationship is very lovely, especially between Pops and Puggy. Since he has lost his hearing he looks to her to guide him in unknown scenarios and gets great comfort from her.
There seems to be several pug superstars on social media right now, do you have any rivalry with them?
Never! Everyone thinks they have the best dog in the world – and they are all right!
We truly believe there’s room on the throne for everyone and love seeing all the different personalities and fun content other pugs put out there!
Who is yours and Puggy’s favorite pug celebrity?
Doug The Pug! We have always loved him and his owners. They are so creative and their content always makes us giggle! We were lucky enough to meet them a few years back when Doug was doing a tour of London.
What does the future pug life for Puggy hold?
Puggys future is bright and super chilled! We are always creating ways to share Puggys life with his followers and we will continue to do this for as long as Puggy wants!
Sure, he’s a deaf dog now, but he has a healthy, happy future ahead of him and we cant wait to share some adventures we have in the pipeline! Puggy knows he is a king and we will continue to treat him that way!
Puggy Smalls is named after the late rapper Biggie Smalls, aka Notorious B.I.G. He had a song named “Notorious Thugs.” I wanted to create a Pug community online for other people to get the same buzz from sharing their Pugs online as I do. I setup the Facebook group Notorious Pugs, which is now the largest Facebook group for Pugs with a nod to my two true loves, 90s hiphop and Puggy!
Instadoggo is our new look blog and website (www.instadoggo.com). We shout about the hottest and latest dog trends on the dog scene.
