McCurtain founded a program with Nuzzles & Co. Pet Rescue and Adoption in Utah to provide rescue and support of pets on reservations in the region, including the Navajo Nation, Ute Ouray Nation, Ute Mountain Nation and the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute.
Nuzzles & Co. Pet Rescue and Adoption Quick Facts:
- Our Rescue Ranch is a 16,000-square-foot home for the dogs and cats in our program.
- The ranch was built from the ground up by our volunteers with materials donated by our generous supporters.
- The Rescue Ranch facility includes a full veterinary suite, a community cat room (complete with an outdoor catio!), large outdoor runs for enrichment and playtime for the dogs, offices for our administrative staff, and much more!
At our ranch, our veterinarian gives every dog and cat a medical evaluation and a full spectrum of vaccines. Every dog is debugged, bathed, spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. We provide further treatment for animals who need intensive dental work, life saving surgeries, or other medical procedures.
“It’s a big undertaking, but we are reducing the number of unwanted animals that end up in shelters that would probably be euthanized,” McCurtain said. “It’s a lot of work but worth it.”
McCurtain received a $10,000 grant for Nuzzles & Co. as a finalist, and came in second place in the voting.
