Midas the 4-eared Cat

by Robert Hudson
Midas the 4-eared Cat is the latest cat with this birth defect to come to the world’s attention. Found, rescued and adopted in Turkey, the four month old kitten is a Russian blue mix breed. The breed is known for its double layer slate grey coat. The hair is dense and short, as well as plush to the touch. The kitten is born with yellow eyes with green rims, but turns solid bright green at adulthood.

The deformation of Midas the 4-eared cat ears is linked to a recessive gene mutation from the cat’s parents. Midas has two normal size ears that provide normal hearing, and two small ears in front that are thought to be non functioning.

If Midas has the personality of a pure bred, she will be full of energy, and love attention. Midas was adopted by a young fashion model in Turkey who also has a dog and another cat.
Midas the four-eared cat is not the first. Two such cats became known on Facebook: Kreature who crossed over in 2019, and Batman the 4 eared was adopted in 2016. Their Facebook page has been inactive since last March. Aslan the 4 eared cat lives in India. FrankenKitten is in Australia.
Midas has the extra ears in front of the large ears, so it is easy to see all four. The small additional ears may also be on the side of the head, or directly behind the large ears so they cannot be seen in a frontal view.
