Magical Merlin Ragdoll
by Robert Hudson
The magical Merlin Ragdoll has a distinctive look of annoyance, but how does he really feel? He is really quite happy and loves his family! Hailey told me, “Merlin turned 5 this past September! He was born as a sweetie and didn’t develop his grouchy face – I mean magical powers – until around the 1 year mark.”
She went on to say, “When I first saw a photo of Merlin I remember thinking how sweet and precious he looked, he had the most innocent eyes! Merlin is a Ragdoll Himalayan mix, and both breeds are known for their coloured ears, faces and tails. The colouring starts out small
in the early days but develop as they grow into adults. As Merlin’s features developed in the first year of his life, he also gained a furrowed brow which I think mostly contributes to his cantankerous appearance. His other special features include dark shading around his lips appearing as “black lipstick”, piercing blue eyes and striped stockings.”
Will Merlin Smile?
But does he ever smile? We are not sure, but according to Hailey, the only things that would make him smile are “either world domination or freeze dried salmon treats.”
It was destiny for Hailey and Magical Merlin Ragdoll to come together. “I wanted a ragdoll breed as I had heard of their incredible temperaments. Then I came across an ad on kijiji (Canadian buy and sell website) for ragdoll himalayan kittens, a few hours away from my home. I contacted the breeder and asked to reserve the cutest kitten in her photos that I had laid my eyes on. She replied to me letting me know that he was already spoken for sadly. Later that day, there was a bad storm which resulted in a power outage for the breeder. She reached out to me the next day to let me know that they weren’t able to connect and had to pass on the kitten so I had the opportunity to claim him. The rest is history!”
I wondered what he thinks of us people. “He fondly looks down upon his human underlings. In his mind, Humans sole existence to serve him and observe him”, Hailey laughed. Merlin adores his fans though. “Merlin is actually known best for tolerating everyone with no discrimination.”
Magical Merlin Ragdoll- Oh Those Eyes
Magical Merlin Ragdoll‘s fans call his eyes hypnotic, piercing, and soul gazing. Besides casting spells, his favorite activity is to “protest in the kitchen for treats at any time that he is not sleeping.” What annoys him the most is “human existence, taxes, seeing the bottom of his food dish.”
The Ragdoll is a cat breed with striking blue eyes, plush semi-long-haired coat, and is known for having a docile temperament and affectionate nature. Merlin is a cuddle bug. Seriously. But don’t tell him that.
He prefers wet food in gravy and LOVES freeze dried salmon. The creamy tubes are also his kryptonite according to Hailey.
Does he play hard or sleep hard? “Merlin plays soft and sleeps EXTRA hard. Truthfully, not many toys are qualified to interest him. Except for spring toys.”
The Ragdoll is a relatively healthy breed with just a few known health issues:
- Obesity.
- Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a form of heart disease.
- Urinary tract issues, such as bladder stones.
- Hairballs, due to a long coat.
We think Merlin is pretty special and look forward to many more years of entertainment and giggles.
That is ultimate resting b face. I love him so much!
