Pet Owners Nationwide Can Join The Pet Fit Challenge In Preparation For National Pet Obesity Day
New York, NY – September 17, 2015 – Obesity among our pets is often overlooked. According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, 53% of adult dogs and 55% of cats in the US are obese or overweight. September 24th kicks off the official Pet Fit Challenge; a great opportunity for owners to step up to the plate and make a positive health change for their pet. This two-week challenge will include daily fitness and health tips from experts and vets, giveaways, prizes, and a chance for individuals to share their fitness goals. During the challenge, participants are asked to post photos on social media sharing ways they get fit with Fido or Fluffy. It is encouraged to use hashtag #fitpetchallenge to show support and spread the word to other pet parents.
On Thursday, September 24th, a kick off event in New York City will take place to launch this national challenge. The Salty Paw’s Pet Boutique & Groom Spa will host a free eventfrom 7:00-9:00pm at their facility in Seaport, NY which will benefit Social Tees Animal Rescue. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask the Vet, check out adoptable dogs, join a raffle, and take a 20-minute K9 Fit Club demo class.
Similar to humans, our pets are suffering from the modern day reality of obesity. It’s crucial we face this unfortunate epidemic and strive to make a difference, both for our health and our beloved pet.
