From Russia with Love-Hosico Cat
by Robert Hudson
Hosico comes to us on social media from Russia and delights his fans worldwide with his poofy and plush appearance
He epitomizes the life of Cat with humans. Carefree, confident, playful, and affectionate.
His breed is recognized as the Scottish Straight or Scottish Shorthair. According to Roman, his cat Dad, “However, this breed is not recognized worldwide, such as in Russia. This cat breed is recognized as a separate breed by the Australian Cat Federation (ACF) as the Scottish Shorthair and The International Cat Associaton (TICA) as the Scottish Straight. Usually when we hear about a Scottish breed we imagine a lop-eared cat called a Scottish Fold. Therefore, for many countries the same breed will be a British Shorthair. The exact name of the Hosico’s color – Black Golden Ticked (Ny 25).”
“Our family was always in love with cats, those fluffy fur balls who make you smile and feel cozy at home. Before Hosico we had a Siam cat Misha. He passed away, when he was 15 because of some kidney disease. We all felt so upset and lost after this, that we just couldn’t take another cat for a very long time. When finally felt we are ready to do that, we started discussing the breeds and couldn’t decide between Scottish and Abyssinian ones. Eventually we agreed on a Scottish cat. We bought a little golden kitten. He was very shy, fearful and full of fleas. “
“Like all cats, he is very active a couple of times a day. He runs and jumps. This is almost absent in our videos, as it is very fast and it is almost impossible to shoot. Although Hosico runs very fast and jumps very sharply and high. He is very excited about new things, paper bags and toys.”
Although Hosico is an indoor cat, he does go outside on a leash and harness. “In addition to pet stores, we walk in the courtyard of our house and sometimes go to the nearest park. On the street he is always surprised, he is scared and at the same time everything is interesting, especially the sounds.”
His fans seem to simply adore looking at him. He does not do anything unique, or gimmicky, or funny slogans, but is an ambassador for unconditional love without judgement. He is a beacon of goodwill and an example for us to have tolerance and compassion regardless of our differences. Personally, I take great comfort in this during these frightening times of social strife and intolerance of others.
