While pet emergencies are inevitable, you can still prevent them from happening or at least lessen the damages they may cause. You can do this by identifying what an emergency is and knowing when to call an emergency vet.

The Six Examples of When to Call an Emergency Vet
1 -When your pet’s having difficulty in breathing
If your pet suffers from shortness of breath, don’t hesitate and call an emergency vet immediately. You can tell whether your pet is having a hard time if you notice him or her breathing so fast, coughing a lot, or if the tongue color changes to blue, pale, or gray.
These signs may not only root from difficulties in breathing, but also from more serious conditions like asthma, pneumonia, or heart disease.
That’s why if you notice these signs on your pet, seek help from an emergency vet right away.
2-If your pet is choking on something
Almost all pets, especially dogs, love to chew on everything they can get their hands on. That’s why they’re the most prone to swallowing or choking on different kinds of objects.
Some of the signs that your pet is choking on something are the constant pawing of the mouth or rubbing their mouths onto your carpet. These behaviours mean that they wanted to get rid of something, but they can’t.
If you notice these signs, you’ll need expert advice on what to do to extract the foreign object. These objects can potentially harm your pet’s digestive tracks so call your vet immediately.

3- When your pet ingested something harmful
Aside from tiny toys and other objects, your pet can also ingest harmful substances or foods that are normal for us to eat but are poisonous for them. Below are some examples of those foods and substances that you must store properly:
- Chocolates
- Grapes or raisins
- Rodenticides
- Marijuana
- Lilies
- Foods that have xylitol
- Acetaminophen

4- When to Call an Emergency Vet- If your pets are experiencing diarrhea or non-stop vomiting
These are the types of situations that you can easily tell that there’s a problem. And it’s more likely because of an underlying condition. So have your pet examined by the experts to figure out the condition and treat it immediately.
5- When to Call an Emergency Vet-When cherry eye inflammations start to appear
Inflammations are tell-tale signs that something is wrong with your pet and is an indicator when to call an emergency vet, and cherry-eyes are one of those. These are characterized by the inflammation of the tear gland, excessive discharge, and redness of the eyes.
While cherry-eyes are not extremely painful, they’re still itchy and can make your pet uncomfortable. These can also cause more infections if not treated immediately.
If you have a pet like a pug who has prominently exposed eyes, watch out for these inflammations as they are more prone to these conditions.
6-If your pet gets injured by other animals
Play biting between dogs and other pets is perfectly normal. But it’s not all the time that pets can control their force. So watch out for situations when your dog’s playmate can’t control the biting and scratching anymore. If not tamed immediately, these playful intentions can result in injuries. Knowing when to take your pet to the vet if it has an injury should be a no brainer.
And to be honest, these injuries can go from manageable to severe if not treated by an expert immediately.
