Last week a new show titled, “The Healing Powers of Dude,” dropped on Netflix. The 8-episode debut season follows an 11-year old boy with social anxiety as he navigates middle school with an emotional support dog named Dude. While the series is described as a “feel-good comedy,” for teens, it also tackles serious topics on mental and physical health. The series covers what other teen TV misses, and hopes to have a positive impact on its audience.
“It’s so important to normalize alternative mental health treatments like emotional support animals. “The Healing Powers of Dude” is starting the conversation early by reaching teenagers – a demographic that may struggle with social anxiety the most.” – Prairie Conlon, LMHP & Clinical Director of CertaPet
