FIVE LITTLE KITTENS
By Selma Roth
Recently I decided it would be fun to foster a litter of kittens from the Humane Society. I was living alone and I had a few weeks that I knew I would be at home, so it seemed like a perfect time. When the day came for my four-week-old boarders to arrive, five little balls of fluff, along with devoted Mom, settled into their new digs.
The gang’s all here!
As with all babies they spent a lot of time sleeping, and would flop down anywhere …
Sometimes with Mom …
Sometimes together …
And sometimes alone.
When they woke up, they would be ready to explore.
There must be something in here.
What’s this funny looking thing?
Where’d you go?
Ah, there you are!
They were such fun to watch. I never knew what they were going to do. They liked to play around my feet, and sometimes they jumped into my lap. There were times when they meowed for no apparent reason and Mom carried them off into another room. They were learning more every day.
This looks good.
The others thought so too!
It wasn’t long before they learned to groom themselves just like Mom.
All too soon the day came to return them to the Humane Society. It wasn’t easy to give them up, but they would soon have a permanent home with someone else to love them, and I had the satisfaction of knowing I had given them a good start in life.
