Do you believe in love at first sight? I do. This story is the short version.
I was toying with the idea of getting a dog. Then, I started looking at pictures of adoptable dogs online. Soon enough, I was stalking Coco and watching to see if she was adopted, and she wasn’t. For months. I thought, “Who would NOT want this beautiful angel?” At the time she was 6 years.
I kept sending her pictures to my boyfriend and he knew the gig was up. I was going to adopt before I even knew it!
This all began in October and by December 31, 2009 we met and I adopted her. We’ve been inseparable since. I love Coco and would do anything to make sure she has a long happy life. See, she came to me, she had her entire mammary chain removed due to tumors. She was allergic to the 4 different types of sutures used, so there was a lot of pain and her foster group wasn’t sure if she would make it. But, she did and she thrives and she is well loved not just by me, but my family and friends. She is the “granddoggy” in my family – probably the only one my grandparents will have from me.
Now, 4 years later, Coco and I foster dogs with PUP. Coco is so wonderfully good at this. She knows just how to help the dogs adjust to their new environment, and how to trust again. Her tolerance is inspiring.
I’m so happy that we found each other, she’s saved me from myself and taught me how to love unconditionally.
Special thanks for foster groups like PUP who helped make such a positive difference in our lives and others.
