Saturday night Animal Planet declared Brimley the Cat America’s next star cat. The three member panel chose Brimley from five finalists and cited his cuteness, photogenic qualities, and his great back story as the reasons he was chosen.
Here is his story in his own words from his web site:
I was rescued from a breeder, originally meant to be the stud. When I was a baby, I had major eye problems requiring invasive surgery. After the surgery, both of my eyes needed to be sewn shut and the breeder decided I wasn’t worth it financially anymore, leaving me in a cage with my eyes sewn shut. When Seattle Persian and Himalayan Rescue took me in, they didn’t even know my eyes were sewn shut because there was so much goop caked over my eyes and face. My dad came into meet me 2 days later.
SPHR took a big chance on my dad as he was a first-time pet owner and I’m very high maintenance, but they could tell we fell in love right away. I was in rough shape and had a good chance of losing my left eye, but with a twice daily course of eye drops, eye ointment, oral medication through a syringe, and painkiller pills, both of my eyes healed up naturally and I never even needed surgery! These days I’m a happy and perfectly healthy boy who craves affection (belly rubs are my favorite).
